SALAT AL-ISTIKHARA

In the sayings of the prophet Muhammad ( salla llahu Alaihi wasallam ), If a person plans to execute a matter, example- to marry, travel, do business etc. and does not know if it will be good or bad for him, He should pray two unit prayers ( Raka àts ). In the first rakaà he should read Fatiha and a sura , and in the second rakaà fatiha and sura . Then after the tasleem , he should say the following Du`a -

Allahumma Innii astakheeruka Bi- ilmik , wa astaqdiruka biqudratik , wa as aluka min Fadhlikal Adzeem .

Fa innaka Taàlamu , walaa aàlamu , wa Taqdiru , walaa aqdir . Wa Anta Allaamul ghuyuub .

Allahumma , in kunta Taàlamu , anna hadzal amra (you mention the demand) Khairullii , fii deenii , wama aashii , wa aaqibata amrii , Faqdurhu lii , wayessirhu lii , Tsumma baariklii fiihi .

Wa inkunta Taàlamu, anna haadzal amra ( ) sharrullii, fii deenii, wama aashii, wa aaqibata amrii, Fasrifhu annii, wasrifnii anhu, waqdurliyal khaira haitsu kaana, tsumma baariklii fiihi.

Summarily meaning- Oh Allah! I am seeking your favour with your knowledge, seeking your ability, and seeking your great favour . Because You know, and I do not know. You are capable, and I am incapable. And you have the knowledge of the unseen.

Oh Allah! if you know, that this matter (then you mention the demand) Is good for me, in my religion, my life, and after my death, then bless me with it, and make it easy for me, and then bless me in it.

And Oh Allah! If you know that this matter ( ) is bad for me in my religion, my life, and after my death, then change it for me, and change me from it, and bless me with good where ever it is. Then bless me in it.
